1. Curriculum can be defined as all activities expected of a learner to know within a given period of time.
This can equally be defined as all that is expected of a learner to know or acquired within a given frame of time; this may embrace all the educational domains (Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor).
Curriculum can be defined as a set standard of norms for a learner to acquire, experience, or to know within a given period of time.
2. An individual trained under an area of technical specialization as Electrical technologist, he or she will be expected to perform a variety of complex technical functions relating to the design, planning, constructions, operation and maintenance of electrical systems.
He or she will be expected to perform a variety of administrative and project management support functions by: preparing and compiling budgets; preparing economic analysis; monitoring expenditures of existing projects; preparing progress reports; preparing a variety of project schedules.
He or She will perform a variety of related duties such as: maintain liaison with internal and external groups such as other departments, field staff, consultants, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors, concerning technical and financial aspects of assigned work; provide drawing requirements to drafters and consultants; issuing drawings; prepare correspondence, and maintain project records and files.
This implies that he or she will have the ability to coordinate, supervise, organized, planned, designed, inspect and even be an instructor in the field.
3. The ten experiences an individual who is trained as Electrical Technologist to be exposed in order for him to do what is expected of him are
i. He should be exposed to function competently in a workshop setting and making measurements
ii. He should be exposed to operate technical equipment and critically examine experimental results and properly reporting.
iii. He should be exposed to identify formulae and present creative solution to technical calculation and solve technical problems of the type commonly encountered in electrical technology career.
iv. He should be exposed to use modern computational tools for technical problem solving.
v. He should be exposed to basic job safety and general installation.
vi. He should be exposed to a broad education and knowledge of contemporary issues in a global and societal context as necessary to develop professional ethical responsibility.
vii. He should be exposed to modern communication trend in order for him to effectively communicate with members of multi-disciplinary teams from a variety backgrounds.
viii. He should be exposed to recognize the need for life-long learning and posses the skills to maintain and improve technical and non technical abilities.
ix. He should be exposed to utilize computer software applications used in electrical technology.
x. He should be exposed to the immediate trend around him
4. The five challenges affecting curriculum planning in Vocational and Technology Education are numerous but few among others are,
i. Exodus of teachers which lead to brain drain, where lecturers are moving to another area in search of greener pasture because of low earning.
ii. Low student morale, this implies that the students are not encouraged to effectively participate in this educational programme.
iii. Poor funding, this suggest that the allocation of fund accrue to this educational programme is inadequate to really carter for its successfulness; facilities as well are not properly look into.
iv. Short fall in recruitment, this depict that the personnel or manpower to effectively execute this programme are insufficient.
v. Inadequate emphasis on pre-vocational subjects at both primary and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS). Less attention is been given to this concept of education and this posed a lot of challenges at higher level of the education processes.
